History
Janet Dauble found out from a RAST blood test in 1979 that she was severely food sensitive. It was a total surprise to her as eating food was about the only thing left in her life that she could still do and enjoy. Elimination of her food allergens alleviated her many painful, disabling, and debilitating symptoms (click on the Founder’s link for Janet’s Story).
Janet began to help other people with their chronic health problems. She began a small local support group in Arcadia, CA in January of 1983 for Christian women. The group quickly grew to include men and non Christians. Then the Human Ecology Action League (HEAL), a national support organization for people with chemical and food sensitivity, listed our organization as a Los Angeles area allergy support group in their publication. Because we were listed as "Pasadena Allergy Support Group - Christian oriented" chemically sensitive Christians from other states began to contact Janet. Her mailing list for the newsletter quickly grew to 500. By 1987, she was sending the newsletter to 700.
In the meantime, Janet was still working full time and praying a great deal about how she could continue to handle both a full time job and a ministry to 700 people. The company she worked for began to use more and more toxic chemicals in the work shop below her office. A crossroads was finally reached, and she left that job. She remembers having a perfect peace about leaving even though she did not know how she could find another job that would allow her to also handle Share, Care and Prayer.
Janet decided to take the opportunity to work on the ministry for a few days before looking for another job. Two mornings later, following her regular Bible study, she read this verse in Colossians 4:7 from the New English Bible "This special word to Archippus: ‘Attend to the duty entrusted to you in the Lord’s service and discharge it to the full.’" She did not know what job God had given to Archippus, but she was sure that He had given her the job of encouraging those with Environmental Illness and that now He must be telling her to work full time on that job.
Of course that meant that not only would Janet immediately not have an income but there would be no financial support for Share, Care and Prayer either! She had worked full-time since she was 19 years old and had worked herself through college. She wondered if she had enough faith to trust God for her support? And, she wondered how Share, Care and Prayer would be supported? But, since she believed that God told her to do it, she obeyed. Share, Care and Prayer, Inc., which had became incorporated in 1986, became an official nonprofit organization in August of 1987, two months after Janet left her job. After achieving tax-deductible status, donations started to trickle in from our very ill, financially destitute members. It has been a difficult road to follow, but our needs have been supplied.
In 1989, Focus on the Family published a short blurb on Attention Deficit Disorder and Share, Care and Prayer in their magazine. We received about 1,500 letters from chemically sensitive people from that publication.
Share, Care and Prayer, Inc. now ministers to almost 4,000 sensitive people of all religious faiths and those with no religious faith in a variety of ways. We minister through our newsletter, E.I. Answer Line, book and tape library, Pen Pal Program, corporate day of prayer, etc.
