and Pray for the Environmentally Ill

The Environmentally Ill (E.I.’s) are those who cannot tolerate life in a society saturated with chemicals and toxins. Their bodies react adversely to perfumes, plastics, carpeting, gases, paints, resins, synthetic fabrics, beauty products, household cleaners, bug spray, and weed killers that most people take for granted, as well as foods, molds, pollens, and dust. A growing percentage cannot tolerate electromagnetic fields from cell phones/towers, computers, appliances, etc.

The reactions vary in intensity, and can affect every organ system in the body, causing a myriad of physical, mental and emotional symptoms. The reactions can also be ongoing or delayed, causing chronic symptoms as in the case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and Gulf War Syndrome. For hidden, unknown allergens, testing or avoidance-and-challenge must be done in order to be able to make a connection between exposure to chemicals and foods as the cause of symptoms.

While scientists have long recognized that formaldehyde is a sensitizer, DNA research has found enzyme deficiencies in chemically sensitive people, and the Environmental Protection Agency recognizes that indoor air pollution and widely used pesticides are associated with the development of chemical sensitivity, the public is not aware of this type of injury. Therefore, the Environmentally Ill suffer ostracization from society due to not being believed as well as from serious health problems.

Since all areas of life are challenged by the illness, general prayer for the very sensitive is needed for safe (tolerated) food, water, air, clothing, and housing, and for the provision of their financial, medical, legal, social and spiritual needs. Also pray that the Lord would reveal to each individual with the illness, the cause of his particular symptoms. And, that God would help him to follow through with treatment, lifestyle change to avoid chemicals, and discipline to stay on a nutritional, allergen-free diet to renew his health.
