The Truth Is Stranger than Fiction

Wanda had just put new tires on her escape vehicle when a newly painted storage Pod nearby forced her to leave her home for two weeks. While she could tolerate the new tires when driving her vehicle, she would not have been able to sleep in it, because the new tire smell would make her sick when the car was stationery. So, she drove her vehicle for several hours on a freeway (slow driving would not have been as effective) to help them outgas the smell. She said that after driving 400 miles she could then tolerate sleeping in her vehicle.



One of our members, who lives in a high rise apartment building, has had to flee her apartment many times to stay over night in a hotel. She would have to leave due to getting sick from plumbing repairs, construction outdoors, carpet cleaning in the hallway, or pesticide use. One elderly neighbor, who did not know why she was going to hotels at different times of the day or night, told another neighbor that she must be a prostitute!



When we had our board of directors meeting in Frazier Park in August of 2005, I found out that Art often got claustrophobia sitting in the back of a van or while on an airplane. His job entailed a lot of travel and the feelings of claustrophobia made it difficult for him. The only change in his routine from home was that he would eat eggs for breakfast. He had tested positive for eggs so only ate them for convenience while traveling. I suggested he try not eating eggs when traveling to see if it made a difference. He just told me, two years later, that he has not experienced a single case of claustrophobia in vans or on planes since he had been to our board meeting! And, you guessed it, he has not eaten any eggs while traveling since then! PTL. (Remember, everyone is different. A sensitivity to eggs could cause any symptom. And, claustrophobia can be caused by any antigen--food, chemical, mold, etc.).
