God Help the Sick

God help the sick
the tired and the needy
the tormented souls
hopeless without goals
those trapped below the greedy

God help the sick
the handicapped, the disabled
who face ridicule
and under-handed cruelty --
tricks beneath the table

God help the sick
the old and the alone
the hungry and the cold
with no-one to hold
loveless thru' the bone

God help all people who are lost
confused, fearful and double-crossed
All of those ignored
by their friendly neighbors
cast out by their families
who prefer to live with ease
forgotton by once-best friends
upon whom, foolishly, they did depend

God help all who fall
And cry an empty call
to humanity without the milk of
   human kindness
to a world quite devoid
of care for their brother's distress.
